Legal Profession:
- Accurate estimates for the number of lawyers in India and the number of believers involved in the legal profession were unavailable at the time of publication.
- The name of the local lawyers group is Christian Legal Association of India (CLAI). It was initiated in 1999 but was only recently formally structured. The Christian group has a leadership board headed by Mr. Nabin Chandra Chhinachani, anda network of 150 lawyers. In addition, CLAI maintains contact with 250 lawyers in the country.
Major Activities of Christian Lawyers:
CLAI lawyers are primarily involved in the following activities:
- Advocacy on issues pertaining to the Christian community, legal responsiveness, and human rights
- Organizing prayer fellowship
- Participating in litigation
- Lobbying for laws to protect the rights and freedoms of Christians
- Conducting legal awareness workshops for Christian churches
- Distributing a weekly prayer calendar
Convocation Goals:
- The Global Convocation will give Christian advocates from CLAI the unique opportunity to freely interact with lawyers from across the globe. Furthermore, the opportunity for sharing experiences will encourage Indian lawyers to persevere in doing their vital work.

- Favorable Indian Supreme Court ruling on the CLAI’s petition addressing religious freedoms in the country
- Fast set-up of a national legal group that would effectively address the needs of persecuted churches
