Legal Profession:
- Accurate estimates for the number of lawyers in Zimbabwe and the number of believers involved in the legal profession were unavailable at the time of publication.
- The name of the local Christian group is the Christian Legal Society of Zimbabwe. The group is currently in the process of developing its constitution and becoming a formalized organization under the leadership of Davison Kanokanga. The national group is being formed with the support of several city-based groups, including the following: Bulawayo CLS, coordinated by Mr. Gerald Matiba; Harare CLS, a new group being led by Clemence Masango; and a strong group of law students at the University of Zimbabwe, headed by Thomas Sibanda.
Major Activities of Christian Lawyers:
Christian lawyers and students in Zimbabwe are involved with the following activities:
- Hosting a breakfast meeting for law students in Bulawayo.
- Active membership in the newly formed Christian Coalition in Bulawayo. The alliance seeks to coordinate local Christian NGOs on advocacy around social justice issues.
- Organizing CLS chapters in additional cities in Zimbabwe.
- Planning regional conferences.
- University of Zimbabwe Christian law students are working towards having a strong recruitment drive, starting a weekly newsletter, setting up a vibrant network with other law students in Bulawayo, in Africa and the rest of the world, and mobilizing graduating law students to join the city chapters at the end of their stay at UZ.
