Bolivian Christian lawyers have participated in the several regional conferences organized by ALA/RLAAC since 2001. In November 2007, Gianella Aloise (IJC Uruguay and Board Chair-person of ALA/RLAAC), Daniel Varela (CLA/Paraguay) and Nina Balmaceda (Advocates International Coordinator for Latin America) visited Bolivia to participate in a conference for Christian lawyers organized by local colleagues that took place in the Bar Association of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Attorneys from several provinces of the country participated in the meeting, including a group of colleagues who traveled from Cochabamba and Oruro, thanks to Juana Ambrocio’s leadership.

As a result of that visit, the Bolivian Association of Christian Lawyers (Asociación de Abogados Cristianos de Bolivia - AACB) was founded in the city of Cochabamba with members from Cochabamba and Oruro. Our Bolivian colleagues are involved in several activities to serve the community; in particular it is worth highlighting their involvement in prison ministry. They share the gospel with inmates and provide pro bono legal services. They also help them by providing some practical help for the inmates’ basic needs, and especially carry out activities for the children who are in prison with their parents.

The current officers of the AACB are Claudia Leclere, President; Carla Torres, Vicepresident; Juana Ambrocio, Secretary General; and Ivana Claros, Treasurer.
