The Secretary General of the Evangelical Alliance in Chad, Rev. Bako attended the 2007 AA conference in Kenya and, on his return, was able to mobilise Christian lawyers in Chad. The AI Liaison’s plan to visit the country in early 2008 was postponed due to the failed coup attempt in the country at the time.

Chad remains plagued by political violence and recurrent attempted coups d’état. The nation suffers from inadequate infrastructure; poverty is rife and health and social conditions compare unfavourably with those elsewhere in the region. Since the telecommunications and internet network is not well-developed in the country, communication with our contact there is very difficult.

Chad faces a humanitarian crisis. Since 2008, Chad has hosted over 280 000 refugees from Sudan’s Darfur region, over 55 000 from the Central African Republic, as well as over 170 000 internally displaced persons. The country relies heavily on humanitarian aid for its survival.
