Lawyers of Hope in Rwanda Sunday, September 13, 2009

Claire Wilkinson (Rwanda) from Lawyers of Hope in Rwanda sends us the following updates and encouraging news:

“Lawyers of Hope recently took part in the inaugural Legal Aid Week in Rwanda, designed to raise the profile of legal aid providers and to reach as many people as possible with free legal aid services. Two teams of LOH members spent the week in two prisons in Kigali, giving legal advice and assistance to nearly 400 prisoners. Praise God with us for the opportunity to share the gospel with these prisoners, as well as to provide them with legal advice. One mentally ill prisoner was released as a result of our intervention after spending more than 3 years waiting to appear in court. Please pray for us as we seek to build on this work - we hope to obtain permanent permission to work in prisons in Rwanda and to follow up the most needy cases which we have identified.”

Good Bye to “Good luck!”

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. Deuteronomy 4:39

“Good luck!” is a phrase you hear all the time. If you’re about to undergo surgery, people say “Good luck!”  If you’re in a job search, they say “Good luck!”  If you’re getting married, it’s “Good luck!”  If you’re expecting a baby, “Good luck!” If you’re taking an exam, “Good luck!”  If you’re going to court, “Good luck!”

(August 19, 2009) SUIT FILED TO STOP FEDERAL FUNDING OF DESTRUCTIVE HUMAN EMBRYO RESEARCH

WASHINGTON, DC  A lawsuit filed today in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia seeks to enjoin and overturn the controversial guidelines for public funding of embryonic stem cell research that the National Institutes of Health issued on July 7, 2009. The implementation of these guidelines marks the first time that taxpayer dollars will be used to fund research that will result in the destruction of human embryos. Since 1994, Congress has expressly banned NIH from funding research in which human embryos “are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death.”
